What it is
Digital Smile Design combines clinical photography and a 3D intraoral scan to create a visual plan for your smile.
What it can help with
It reduces the uncertainty of aesthetic treatment by letting you discuss tooth shape, proportion and overall character before irreversible work.
Uncertainty is the real obstacle
"What if I don't like the result?" is what stops most people. Digital design answers that before treatment, not after.
Without a design first
You decide from a verbal description and hope the result matches what you pictured. Any disagreement surfaces at the end, when it is too late.
With digital design
You see a simulation on your own mouth, adjust it until it convinces you, and the approved plan then guides every step of the actual treatment.
It also lets us say no
Sometimes the simulation shows the change isn't worth it, or that a simpler treatment is enough. That information is valuable too.
How it works
We take photographs and a scan, study the bite and facial proportions, then use the simulation to guide a realistic treatment plan.
What your design appointment includes
Full records
Professional clinical photography and a 3D scan in a single 45–60 minute session, in our Ruzafa clinic.
A revisable simulation
You see the proposed result on screen and can request changes to shape, length, proportion and shade before approving anything.
Plan and estimate
Which treatments the approved design requires, in what order, how many appointments and what it costs — all in writing.
Who it may suit
It is useful when considering veneers, whitening, edge bonding or orthodontics, especially if several treatments may need coordinating.
Which treatments the design guides
Veneers
Where it adds most: it defines shape, length and colour of each veneer before it is made.
Whitening
Helps decide the target shade and at what point in the plan whitening should happen.
Orthodontics
Shows whether aligning first avoids aesthetic work that would otherwise need redoing.
Rebuilds
Acts as a guide for restoring worn or chipped teeth with coherent proportions.
Benefits and limitations
A simulation is a planning tool rather than a guarantee or treatment by itself. Biology, bite and available tooth tissue still determine what is safe.
Why Clínica Lubens
We use the design to support a conservative plan, not to push every patient towards a uniform or artificial-looking smile.

Common questions
- Is smile design a treatment?
- No. It is a visual planning stage that can guide veneers, bonding, whitening or orthodontics.
- Will the final result be identical to the preview?
- The preview guides the plan, but the dentist will explain any biological or technical limits before treatment.
- Is it included in treatment?
- When it forms part of an agreed aesthetic plan, its cost and scope are explained in the written estimate.
- How long does the simulation take?
- A single 45–60 minute appointment covers the clinical photographs and the 3D scan we need to show you the result.
- Do I need it if I only want whitening?
- Usually not. Digital design adds most when shape is changing or several treatments need coordinating. If you only want a colour change, we will tell you.
- Can I ask for changes to the design?
- Yes — that is the whole point. We adjust length, shape, proportion and shade with you as many times as needed before touching a single tooth.
- Is it painful or invasive?
- Not at all. The appointment is photographs and an intraoral scan with a small camera: no impression putty, no anaesthetic, no discomfort.
- Is it useful if I still need orthodontics?
- Yes, and it is often the ideal moment: the design helps decide whether to align first and do the aesthetic work afterwards, avoiding treatment that would later need redoing.
