Dental Hygiene in Valencia

Professional cleaning to remove tartar, care for your gums and keep your mouth healthy.

What it is

A hygiene appointment removes plaque and tartar with ultrasonic instruments, followed by polishing and personalised home-care advice.

What it includes — and what it doesn't

It does include

An initial check of teeth and gums, a professional ultrasonic clean, polishing, and home-care advice tailored to your mouth.

It doesn't include

Any follow-on treatment. If we find decay, gum inflammation or anything else, we explain it first and give you a written estimate so you can decide calmly.

What it can help with

Tartar and inflamed gums can cause bleeding, bad breath and eventually loss of support around the teeth. A professional clean reaches areas brushing cannot.

Why brushing alone isn't enough

Understanding this explains why a professional clean is basic maintenance rather than a luxury.

Plaque forms constantly

It builds up on the tooth all day. While it is still soft, a brush and floss remove it without difficulty.

It hardens into tartar

Within 24–72 hours any plaque left behind mineralises and hardens. From that point no amount of brushing will shift it.

Tartar inflames the gum

Its rough surface holds more bacteria, irritating the gum and causing bleeding, bad breath and, over time, loss of support.

How it works

We first check your teeth and gums, carry out the clean and polish, then explain anything that may need a dentist’s attention.

Who it may suit

It is useful if you have not had a clean recently, your gums bleed, or you notice tartar, staining or persistent bad breath.

Benefits and limitations

Professional hygiene is preventive care, not a substitute for fillings, gum treatment or other procedures when disease is present.

After your clean

The same day

Most people carry on completely as normal. Your teeth feel smooth and your mouth fresher straight away.

Temporary sensitivity

Possible if there was a lot of tartar or inflamed gums. It passes — avoid very hot or cold drinks for a few days.

If your gums were bleeding

Some bleeding may continue for a few days while the gum settles. That is normal, and it improves if you keep cleaning the area rather than avoiding it.

Common questions

How much does dental hygiene cost?
Professional dental hygiene costs €50. It includes a check of teeth and gums, ultrasonic cleaning, polishing and personalised home-care advice.
Will it damage my enamel?
No. Correctly used ultrasonic instruments remove tartar without removing healthy enamel.
How often should I have a clean?
Many people benefit from one or two a year, but the right interval depends on gum health, implants, orthodontics and home care.
Does it hurt?
Usually not. If there is significant inflammation or tartar below the gum there may be brief discomfort; we adjust as we go and tell you beforehand if we expect it.
Will my teeth look whiter?
You will get your natural colour back as surface stains and tartar are removed, but this is not whitening: a hygiene cleans, it does not lighten the shade of the tooth itself.
Can I have it if my gums bleed?
Yes, and that is exactly when it matters most. Bleeding usually signals inflammation caused by plaque and tartar, so removing them is the first step to recovery.
What if I have braces or implants?
No problem — we adapt the technique. In both cases professional hygiene matters even more, because braces and implants collect more plaque.
Is this the same as deep cleaning or root planing?
No. A hygiene works on the visible surface of the tooth. If there is gum disease with tartar below the gumline, that needs root planing, which is a separate treatment. If we find it, we explain it with its own estimate.
